Supporting Mi Foodbanks
Margate Mushrooms is proud to be a key part of the Margate Independent Foodbank (Mi Foodbanks). Founded in June 2020 by our co-founders John Finnegan and Darryn De La Soul, Mi Foodbanks was a direct response to the hardships brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. We saw a growing need in our community due to job losses, reduced earnings, and increased poverty. Our mission at Mi Foodbanks is to provide essential support to those in need within our community. In June 2021, we expanded our outreach by opening the MiCommunity Supermarket at 9 High Street Margate, CT9 1DL.
Community Shop Initiative
In our first year, we focused on functioning as a traditional foodbank, distributing over 11,000 food parcels free of charge. Today, our community shop proudly serves over 5,000 members, offering food, toiletries, and cleaning products at subsidized prices. This initiative is open to anyone on a low income, with a goal to make daily necessities accessible to all. For those who find even these reduced prices challenging, we offer vouchers for use in our shop. Our commitment at Margate Mushrooms extends beyond just providing fresh produce; we're dedicated to supporting our community in every way we can.
